Which films were shot here
In the autumn of 2024 two productions worked in the Alberni Valley, and the Vancouver Island North Film Commission said both would film at Rainbow Lanes. Reporting the plan at the time, NanaimoNewsNOW wrote that “both productions will be moving into the city in the coming weeks, doing filming at Rainbow Lanes and Westporte Place.”
They did. Whether the lanes made the final cut of either film is a question for the edit — we can only tell you the crews were here.
One Mile: Chapter One
Action thriller · released 20 February 2026
Directed by Adam Davidson and starring Ryan Phillippe, Amélie Hoeferle and C. Thomas Howell, One Mile was shot on Vancouver Island between September and October 2024, back to back with its sequel One More Mile. Most of it was made at McLean Mill National Historic Site just outside town, which stood in for an off-the-grid community; the action sequence was filmed at Englishman River Falls near Parksville. Production also worked in Qualicum Beach and Victoria.
The Stolen Child
Fantasy feature · filmed October–November 2024
Sebastian McKinnon's debut feature, adapted from the W.B. Yeats poem, with Stephen McHattie, Jason James Richter and Teddy Van Ee. The production filmed around Vancouver Island through late 2024; its other Port Alberni location was Rogers Creek Park, off Maebelle Road.
Come and bowl in it
The lanes are the same sixteen the crews worked around, and they are open to anyone. If you are in Port Alberni to see where these were made, the alley is on 3752 4th Ave — and McLean Mill, where most of One Mile was shot, is a short drive out of town.
